A
FAMILY TRADITION FOR OVER 30 YEARS
Robert
E Cameron Sr. was born in Fort Myers in 1926 As a young man he served
in the armed forces during and after WWII. After the war he was
trained and educated in the electrical and high voltage lines in
the Corps of Engineers. Upon his return home he built and remodeled
several homes and dock on Marco Island. Robert along with his father
Earl F. Cameron Jr. built and ran a 8" suction dredge in Lee and
Collier county. Over the years Robert was involved in several different
businesses and occupations but always seemed to be involved or return
to construction. In the late 60's construction had become the main
focus for him. Robert was working for a company that was involved
with aluminum and window construction when he began Cameron Construction
by doing remodeling jobs in the evenings and on the weekends. He
had two sans who grew up working with him learning the construction
business. By 1977 Cameron Construction had become a corporation
and was building many custom and spec homes in Lee County. Cameron
Construction, Inc. not only built custom homes but many commercial
projects as well. Through the years, Robert Cameron's youngest son,
Michael, continued with his father until Robert retired in 1987.
Michael
G. Cameron started his career unknowing at the age of 12 with his
father. Within the next few years he decided that construction was
the field in which he wanted to follow. While still in high school
Michael started his formal education of the technical end of construction
and business starting with drafting, technical drawing, and accounting.
Michael completed his academic high school requirements in his junior
year and attended a technical school devoted entirely to construction.
With his past knowledge and experience, Michael completed this course
of study in half the time with honors. While working full time with
his father in Cameron Construction, Michael attended night classes
in business and real estate. In 1981 Michael decided take the Fla
state contractors exam and successfully past it becoming a state
cerf. building contractor that year. In 1986 Michael again took
the FL state exam to further his abilities and possibilities of
becoming a State Cerf. General Contractor. During the early 80's
Michael started other businesses to work with Cameron Construction
while still carrying out his duties with his father in Cameron Construction.
He owned and operated at different times companies which included
carpentry, concrete, and an aluminum business.
Since his father's retirement, Michael took over Cameron Construction,
Inc. and today still continues to carry on the family tradition
of quality construction.
