One such standard of excellence is seen in the print (pictured below) entitled, "100 Years". This CANAAN KIDS signature piece representing the 1st of 100 years of our Fine Arts program mentoring children. This artwork is a charcoal pastel original pastel original done by CANAAN KIDS first art student and now artist/ apprentice instructor Jermaze Wade.

Jermaze overcame becoming a high school dropout by re-enrolling in school with the help of Charles Tolston, a CANAAN KIDS Mentor/ Tutor and Laurence Morris of Ronay Framing, a continued source of inspiration. Through constant focusing of goals, time management and encouragement, Jermaze emerged victorious having had to bring up "0" grade averages to meet Stephenson High School graduation requirements.

He was also teaching 3 hours, twice a week, after school, developing skill sin 30 young artists at Rockbridge Elementary School as part of his "giving back" hours required by all participants in the program. After toiling long over his studies, Jermaze was able to finish all 12th grade requirements except on an English class, which he is presently taking in summer school.

We hosted and promoted his first one-man show at the Art Station in February 1999 and culminated our efforts by investing in the production of 2500 prints of what our Director believes is a masterpiece entitled "100 Years". This piece marks the first of 100 years operation of our Fine Arts Mentoring Program in youth related facilities.

Jermaze is now a high school graduate, an apprentice artist, a young mentor and soon to be a very successful entrepreneur (having been given 300 prints himself for resale). We could not have done this without help from our supporters. Continue your support with a donation for your copy of the "100 Years" signature piece signed by the artist!

CANAAN Kids' Mission

 1) To use our Mentoring Program to give a means of expression within the non-art funded schools and facilities to at-risk, inner city youth who are artistically gifted, yet financially handicapped.

 2) To use this Mentoring Program to assist teachers and instructors in creating self-discipline in youth through showcasing their talents and creativity, and helping each child attain a standard of excellence in their school work. Also, to use counseling and weekly class monitoring to modify inappropriate behaviors.

 3) To encourage sponsors to fund projects to showcase the talents and creativity of our artists, dancers, poets, writers, song writers, and musicians. To develop and promote a spirit of entrepreneurs among those gifted in the FINE ARTS.

4) To encourage parent involvement and awareness of their child's artistic abilities and strengths. To encourage parents to come and participate in the creative process on a weekly basis.

5) To raise a nation wide awareness, support and funding for prevention and abstinence programs for at-risk youth in our schools and youth related facilities.
