Special Places Tours

nature sceneDiscovery and exploration make these excursions a special experience. Our personalized trips help you appreciate and understand various habitats and scenic beauty of South Carolina. Most of these excursions depart Sunday 9:00 am and return about 5:00 pm, traveling by van one hour or less to the boat landing.

Our special places tours include:

Deveaux Bank and Botany Bay Island
Cruising scenic North Edisto River, we search for dolphin. We land on beautiful Deveaux Bank for bird watching or a leisurely stroll. Returning, we explore the isolated Botany Bay Island Beach, a pristine barrier island, then meander through salt marsh creeks.

Morris Island
From across the marina, we cruise across Charleston Harbor, past Fort Sumter, then south through salt marsh, exploring this special habitat. Arriving at Lighthouse Inlet, we gain an up-close view of the lighthouse completely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Strolling Morris Island Beach, we learn of the island's monumental civil war role, then search for dolphin as we return.

Cooper River and Santee Canal
Starting on the Cooper River, we explore Wadboo Creek for a glimpse of low country swamp. We then tour Old Santee Canal State Park, site of the first canal to link Charlestowne to the Santee River. Afterwards, we cruise up the new canal and, weather permitting, are lifted 75 feet through the lock for a brief cruise on Lake Moultrie.

alligatorCedar Island and Dolphin Watch
We cruise the Intracoastal Waterway then along the North Santee River, a favorite sunning spot for alligators. We explore uninhabited Cedar Island, a spectacular barrier island. On our return, we meander through salt marshes and old rice fields of the Santee River, searching for dolphin.

Ashley River and Fort Dorchester Historic Site
We cruise the famous Ashley River for a riverside view of Drayton Hall and Middleton Place Plantations. Continuing up river, we learn about Carolina rice culture. In the afternoon, we tour the archeological dig at Fort Dorchester then return down river, searching for lowcountry birds and alligators.
