Interests and Ideas in Counseling
| |
When
I first went into the counseling field, I focused on family therapy.
In particular, I was interested in the work of Salvador Minuchin,
who is recognized as a great innovator in the field.
Later, I became interested in the relationship between couples as
the primary focus of therapy. Now, my attention is on how individuals
deal with the complexities of all of their relationships.
I believe that being human means we are primarily interpersonal. That
is, more than anything else, we relate. We have relationships. We
have them with ourselves, with our family, our friends, our pets,
our hobbies, our spirituality, etc. Almost always, when we look closely
at our concerns and struggles, they will involve some kind of relationship.
So improving our ability to relate effectively will improve our satisfaction
with life. |
