SURGICAL TREATMENT We offer routine surgical services such as spaying, castration, and declawing. We also can provide more specialized surgical care for abdominal, chest, orthopedic and skin diseases. We take great care in all situations to insure that any risk during the procedure is minimized. Today, we have gas anesthetics that are extremely safe and do not cause liver or kidney damage. Another important aspect of surgery is that problems in the major organs are identified with blood tests, physical exams and possibly x-rays or EKGs. If a problem is identified, then additional care may be taken as the patient is placed under anesthesia to avoid further problems. Monitoring the patient is also important. Insuring that fluids are given directly in the blood stream at the proper rate keep the kidneys and other organs working properly. These are all steps that are needed to protect your animal during a surgical procedure and ones that we perform at Due West Clinic.
DENTAL CARE Dental care for people is well understood. Few people would consider not having their teeth brushed or cleaned for 2 to 3 years. This is, however, what many of us expect of our animals. Dental disease is a common cause of disease in other organs. We try to prevent this disease by training the pet owner about home dental care and providing dental cleaning when needed. We even have the option of referral for root canals and orthodontic services. The key is that early detection and intervention is vitally important. PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE At Due West Animal Clinic, we strongly believe that the best method for treating disease is to prevent the disease if possible. This is made possible by regularly scheduled physical exams, vaccinations tailored to the needs of the individual pet, routine examinations for intestinal parasites, and routine evaluation of blood tests. In the event that problems are identified by any of these methods, we are prepared to either treat the condition or see that the most experienced professionals available are contracted to help in treating your pet.
