About Us
Johann and Les Ellis have been married for 26 years and have lived in Martin County for 20 years. We began Gardens Retreat to help others as the result of caring for our eldest son Charlie, who is disabled. We have cared for Charlie in our home for eight years, and became familiar and trained in many areas of health care by working with doctors, nurses, CNAs, home health aides, physical and other types of therapists. During this time, we received training in first aid, Heimlich maneuver, infectious disease, food safety and service, and CPR.
We discovered several years ago that we enjoy working with elderly people. They have universally lived interesting lives and have valuable insight to impart. This has helped us immeasurably in finding a type of work we really enjoy and feel that we can be of service to others.
Additionally, we have three other sons: Andy, who is in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division, and Sam and Jake who are still in school.
