Victorian (1860-1900)
Mostly yellow gold with intricate designs and human figures.
Use of onyx, shell, pearls, mine cut diamonds. Larger pieces.
Edwardian (1900-1910)
Mostly yellow gold with flowing or swirling motifs with
off-setting color. Use of rose cut and early mine cut diamonds
with enameling.
Art Nouveau (1910-1920)
White and yellow gold, platinum or combinations of all.
Filigree and intricate designs using animals and natural
motifs. Use of saffires, rubies and mine cut diamonds.
Art Deco (1920-1930)
Almost exclusively white gold or platinum. Strong geometric
filigree patterns stressing symmetry and color stones to
accent designs: sapphires, rubies, semi-precious and european
cut diamonds.
Retro (1935-1949) Characterized
by rose colored gold with colored stones. Influenced by
shortages in WWII.
1950's
(1950) Yellow and white gold, platinum. Bold
designs with long sweeping lines, asymmetrical designs.
