Your New
Look
Rhinoplasty
In
the days following surgery, when your face is bruised and swollen, it's
easy to forget that you will be looking better. In fact, many
patients feel depressed for a while after plastic surgery - it's quite
normal and understandable.
Rest assured that this stage will pass. Day by day, your nose will begin
to look better and your spirits will improve. Within a week or two,
you'll no longer look as if you've just had surgery.
Still, healing is a slow and gradual process. Some subtle swelling may
be present for months, especially in the tip. The final result may not
be apparent for a year or more.
Breast Lift
Your surgeon will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous
as possible. Still, it's important to remember that mastopexy scars
are extensive and permanent. They often remain lumpy and red for months,
then gradually become less obvious, sometimes eventually fading to thin
white lines. Fortunately, the scars can usually be placed so that you
can wear even low-cut tops.
Breast Augmentation
How will I look and feel right after surgery? Within a day or two after
surgery, you should be up and around. Most of the discomfort that you
feel can be controlled with medication prescribed by your plastic surgeon.
Breast Reduction
Although much of the swelling and bruising will disappear in the first
few weeks, it may be six months to a year before your breasts settle
into their new shape. Even then, their shape may fluctuate in response
to your hormonal shifts, weight changes, and pregnancy.
Liposuction
When the procedure is complete, you will be taken to a recovery area.
For some patients, small drainage tubes will have been placed beneath
the skin. Any discomfort you may feel can be controlled with medication
prescribed by your plastic surgeon. An elastic bandage or specially
designed compression garment may have been applied over the treated
areas to control swelling and assist healing. Your plastic surgeon will
tell you how long you must wear the garment and how you can remove it
to bathe.
Facelift
The chances are excellent
that you'll be happy with your facelift - especially if you realize
that the results may not be immediately apparent. Even after the swelling
and bruises are gone, the hair around your temples may be thin and your
skin may feel dry and rough for several months. Men may find that they
have to shave in new places - behind the neck and ears - where areas
of beard growing skin have been repositioned.
Surgery of the Abdomen
When surgery is complete, you'll be taken to a recovery area. In many
cases, small drainage tubes will have been placed beneath the skin to
help prevent fluids from accumulating. Any discomfort you may feel can
be controlled with medication prescribed by your plastic surgeon. Dressings
may be applied to your abdomen and covered with tape or an elastic bandage.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia surgery can enhance your appearance and self-confidence,
but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal. Before
you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations,
and discuss them frankly with your plastic surgeon.
The results of the procedure are significant and permanent. If your
expectations are realistic, chances are good that you'll be satisfied
with your new look.
