Children
Even
so called "natural" birthing methods can still stress
a developing spine. The resulting irritation to the nervous
system can be the cause of many newborn health complaints. Colic,
unexpected crying, poor appetite, breathing problems, and allergic
reactions can often be traced to the nervous system dysfunction
caused by a malfunctioning
spine.

Contact
sports or repeated one-sided activities can interfere
with proper growth during rapid stages of spinal development.

Head support,
followed by crawling, and a baby's first few steps should be
followed by chiropractic check-ups. If
neglected, the bumps and falls during this period of
rapid growth may lead to serious spinal deformities later in
life. This can set the stage for scoliosis, growing pains, and
a weakened immune system response. Chiropractic adjustment techniques
are modified to fit a child's size and weight. Parents often
report that their children seem healthier than other children
their age.

Massage Therapy
used in conjunction with spinal manipulation offers
a simple method of unlocking the puzzle of chronic pain and
greatly improves the quality of life. Patients who combine the
two together notice faster relief of their symptoms. Two types
of massage that are used in our office are Swedish and Neuromuscular
therapy. Swedish massage is offered for relaxation and
promotes wellness by teaching you to release stress. Letting
go of stress is preventative medicine at its best. Neuromuscular
therapy relieves most pains and symptoms by eliminating
the underlying cause of the pain patterns. It has become one
of todays most promising answers to the challenge of pain.
Sciatica
The
sciatic nerves are the largest and longest nerves of the body,
reaching about the size of your thumb in diameter and running
down the back of each leg. When these nerves are irritated or
affected by the inflammation of nearby soft tissues, doctors
refer to this as sciatica. One of the most common causes of
sciatic leg pain is a vertebra that has lost its normal position
within the body. It can be accompanied by bulging or herniation
of a soft disc which separates each spinal bone. This can irritate
and put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots as they leave the
spinal cord. The result can be intense pain shooting down either
or both legs. In the past, treatment has involved pain medications,
muscle relaxers, physical therapy, and even surgery. The chiropractic
approach is to use carefully directed and controlled pressure
to remove the interference from spinal structures. These adjustments
can be quite effective in reducing nerve irritation and its
associated pain.
